In the opinion article "More Than Just Patronage" by Robert Crews, he states that "In failing to establish the necessary infrastructure, including real political parties, to conduct a proper election, the Karzai and Obama administrations have missed a critical opportunity to broaden popular participation in Afghan politics." His article shows the opinion that the state of the Afghan government is hopeless, and that he doesn't see much improvement on the horizon.
